The Safari Few Ever Find

Most safaris follow the same road. This one doesn't.

Our 10-Day Luxury Western Tanzania Safari & Zanzibar goes to the far west of the country, where the wilderness is untouched and the routes are not classic. It takes you through three very different worlds, and every part of it is private.

1. Katavi: where the wild keeps its own rules

Spend three days in Katavi National Park with private game drives and exceptional wildlife encounters. Watch the hippos at the river, look for birds, and set out on a guided walking safari. At midday, sit down to a private bush picnic lunch in the middle of the wilderness.

2. Mahale: eye to eye with wild chimpanzees

Next come the lush, mountainous rainforests of Mahale, which border the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tanganyika. Trek with a guide to meet wild chimpanzees up close, and look out for some of the rich birdlife in one of Tanzania's most remote ecosystems. You travel between Mahale and your secluded lakeside camp by traditional boat across the lake.

3. Zanzibar: the Indian Ocean to finish

Walk through historic Stone Town, browse the local markets and taste authentic Swahili cuisine. In Nungwi, meet local communities and share a freshly prepared local lunch. As the sun sets, sail along the coast on a traditional dhow. Then spend your last days on the white sand of Nungwi.
